Help with Hawaii resident status

I live in WA, came to HI unexpectedly in June 2021 (still here), working remotely all this time.  Still maintain WA residence, plan to return at some point.  Do I file HI state tax as part year resident since I was here more than 200 days in 2021 or as non-resident since I haven't actually moved here?

It depends on what you mean by maintaining a Washington residence. If you actually have a permanent place of abode outside Hawaii (an actual house or apartment lease, for example) then you are a nonresident). If you merely kept a Washington driver’s license and used a relative’s address are your “permanent” Washington address, then you would be a Hawaii part-year resident.

Refer to Examples 6 and 7 on pages 5-6 to see the difference: Tax Information Release No. 97-01.

I have an apt lease, driver's license, etc in WA so I am a non-resident.  Thank you Ernie
