Filing due date changed to May 17th

The new due date for filing our taxes is May 17th.  Why doesn't my Turbo Tax give me that option.  I would rather file May 17th instead of April 15th.

The IRS E-file Servers have not yet been updated for Tax due payment dates up until 5/17/21. TurboTax's product team expects to hear when The IRS will have their e-file servers updated on Monday, March 22, 2021. At that point, changes to TurboTax can be made.

Hi,

 

I tried to submit my taxes today 03/23 but Turbo Tax wouldn't let me change the submittal date from 04/15/2021 to 05/17/2021 (new extension).  Has Turbo Tax been updated to reflect the new date?

Had the same issue. Just filed today and didn't have the option to schedule a payment beyond April 15th.

You should be able to file now.  Please see the Help Article here for more details.

 

If you are using the CD version of the software, you may need to manually update. To do this, please see the Help Article here to walk you through that process.

Thanks for the feedback. But it does not answer my question. In the Help Article linked above, it says:

  • What do I do if I want to schedule my payment for after April 15? The IRS hasn't updated their systems to accept payments after April 15, so right now, there's no way to change the date. Check back soon for updates.

This is basically my question: When will it be possible to fill and schedule a payment for after April 15 with a direct debit from my bank account?

In TurboTax CD/Download it appears the May 17th date has been included.  Please be sure to update the software which is automatically done when you sign out and sign back into your software.  You can also select 'Online' in the top menu, then select 'Check for Updates'.

 

Paying when filing electronically (and you want to change the payment date after filing):

Taxpayers who filed electronically and scheduled their payment with an Electronic Funds Withdrawal, and want to reschedule their payment to another date, can call the IRS e-file Payment Services automated line at 888-353-4537 to cancel their payment no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern time two business days prior to the scheduled payment date. This means taxpayers who originally scheduled their payment on April 15 and want to reschedule it for a later time, need to take action no later than Tuesday, April 13 at midnight Eastern time. Taxpayers are reminded that they will need to schedule their tax payment for the new tax deadline ending on May 17th.

 

You can always file your payment by mail after e-file or mail the return with the payment.

Has this update been applied to all turbotax products.  I have the Home and Business 2020 product and I am still unable to choose a direct debit date greater than 04/15/2021.  I have done multiple updates, the latest 03/31/2021 with no success.

Try the update again.  The update takes a few minutes then it will open with the May17th date.

The update has been applied to all TurboTax platforms, online and desktop.

Are you using the TurboTax Windows software?  If so the current version is 020.000.1688.  Click on Help, click on About TurboTax, click on Version.

Update your software if not at the current release.  Click on Online, click on Check for Updates.

I checked for updates and keep getting the same message that the software is up to date.

If you are at the latest release there should not be an issue.  Try this -

Save your tax return and close the TurboTax program

Right click on the TurboTax icon

Click on Properties

Click on the Compatibility tab

Check the box Run this program as an administrator

Click on Apply and OK

 

Re-boot your computer.  Then start the TurboTax program again to see if the problem persists.

If it does then contact TurboTax support for assistance

I followed your instructions.  However it still did not change the direct debit date field.

I contacted support but they were unable to fix my problem. I’m hoping that the next update will correct my problem. Thanks for your help.
