College Tuition Expenses

When entering college tuition expense amount on my state tax return for my daughter who is my dependent, should I enter what was paid out-of-pocket, or the total out-of-pocket plus what was paid with FAFSA loans?  Does it matter who paid the out-of-pocket expenses, parent or child, as to what amount is entered here.  Also, same question for entering expenses for books/computer/fees, etc.

Thanks!

No it does not matter who paid, the Taxpayer that claims the student claims ALL education payments for a dependent student.

Even payments made by a family member or friend would be claimed by you.

Loans are the same as cash.

The ONLY expenses not reported are those that were paid with TAX-FREE funds, such as a tax-free scholarship.
