Beware of Incorrect AGI

Perhaps my mistake will save others $27 State of Ohio Turbo Tax Filing fee.  My brother's 1040 was rejected because of Incorrect 2020 AGI. We are sure we used the correct AGI for 2020 in the 2021 electronic filing.

What   i would suggest, unless you are 100 percent certain AGI is correct, ONLY file the Federal, then if that does not go through, you will have to paper file the State because if IRS rejects Federal, the State of Ohio will also reject the State return.

I made a mistake by buying the State before we were certain the Federal would be accepted.

TT will NOT issue a refund, which I understand, BUT TT should caution you about the NO refund when you buy the State.

FROM Turbo Tax:

Because the TurboTax CD/Download state e-filing fee covers transmission costs and does not guarantee acceptance, it's our policy to not issue refunds except under these special circumstances:

  • You weren't able to successfully e-file because of a tax situation your state government doesn't support.
  • The rejection is caused by an override in your state return that we instructed you to enter as a workaround to a known product issue.
  • A known program error or state government problem blocked you from successfully e-filing your state return.
  • You were accidentally charged a second e-filing fee when you resubmitted your state return.

Just for people who found this topic by search:

You can try change the AGI to zero for e-filing. Refer to the post here:

Good luck.
