Alternate state practice returns possible?

I'm choosing where to move and want to run mock returns for the states I'm interested in.   If i purchase the Desktop Turbo Tax or Deluxe,  can I run returns for the alternate multiple states

one version comes with one free state.  you would have to pay for additional states.    comparing just state income taxes may be meaningless.  states can have sales taxes, real estate taxes (or rent that include such taxes)  gasoline taxes, and many more.   In addition,  will you earn the same salary in each state?.    even the self-employed may not be able to charge the same.  then there are the costs of living in each state, they differ.

Each additional state software program would cost you $44.99--a very expensive way to run mock scenarios.

Do some homework another way.   Google the state tax laws.

Thank you both for quick answers.  You're on my wavelength about research first,  and I've done plenty, though just on paper.   The Kiplinger articles are great.   I am indeed a retiree.  I've narrowed my sights on the corner where three states meet and want to make sure I'm not missing anything.   NOT a math person and don't want to make a glaring mistake.   Any alternate ideas welcomed.
