Are you using the .tax2021 file that was generated by the program?

That file should be saved on your computer or other media.

Yes

What, exactly, is going awry with the transfer?

I have been able to transfer multiple test returns from 2021 (1120, 1120-S, 1041, 1065) without any issues.

It was saved on my computer as Turbo Tax 2021 Document, and it takes it but it won't load the information.

Also, make sure you are not trying to transfer a .tax2021 file that was created with one of the individual tax return programs as you will get an error. This is a common occurrence since the files have exactly the same extension (e.g., .taxXXX).

You need to locate the .tax2021 file.

I used Turbotax Bussiness last year and the file extension is .Turbo Tax 2021 Document.

The Turbotax Business 2022 first did not recognize but when I used all files then recognized it and it seems that it did use it, but no information from the previous year such as business name, address, the year was established, business code,  was loaded

Did you get any sort of error message?

Again, the extension for the file you need is .tax2021. All of the information should transfer provided it is the correct file and is not corrupted.

I went back and used my 2021 Turbotax Business software and opened up my last year's 2021 turbo tax file and worked fine. took me to the end which says accepted. BUT, when I use TurboTax Business 2022 and use File/Open and take it to the folder where my 2021 Turbotax file I just saved again earlier using turbo tax business 2021, it does see the file in the folder but I have to tell it to look for all files it shows up and it takes it BUT does not bring any information from 2021.

Don't use File/Open. Rather, choose Start a new Tax Return and then click the Choose File button.

I just did that with the same result nothing from 2021 comes to 2022. When I go to  File/Open and take it to the folder that I know the 2021 filing is there, it looks for "Tax Files (*.tax2022) and I cannot change it to "Tax Files (*.tax2021)". The dropdown only gives to "Tax Files (*.tax2022)" or "All Files (*.*)", other options.

He said do NOT use File-Open.  That is to continue a 2022 return.  You need to start over with a new blank 2022 return.  Go to File-New Tax Return.  Then it will ask for 2021 to transfer.

I did all that but it didn't work. But reading that comment, I went and delete all the 2022 files Turbotax created then I started the Turbotax 2022 which worked. I believe I should have done is to first start a new tax return and then gone to File/Open Tax Return. Thank you all.

To load your prior year information into TurboTax Business you can follow these steps:

  1. Open your TurboTax Business software
  2. On the Work on a Tax Return screen click Start a new Tax Return
  3. Click Begin
  4. Answer the question and Continue
  5. On the Let's Find Last Year's Return screen click Choose File and navigate to your .tax2021 file

i've downloaded to a flash drive from my old computer. And I can access my 2021 turbo tax data on my new computer , but turbo tax 22 can find it to start working on my taxes

Are you using the CD/Download, and did you save it as a .tax file or PDF?
