Deductible Expenses

In October 2024 I started working for a small company as a contractor. I purchased an office chair, printer and monitor totaling $304 for everything. I’m not sure if this qualifies as an expense and if so if this should be categorized as an office expense or as an asset or something else? (I don’t want to depreciate since it was a small $ amount to be deprecating)

You can deduct the expenses provided your income was not reported on a Form W-2. You do that by entering your income and expenses in the self-employed section in TurboTax. You can enter the items you mentioned as expenses, but you should first work through the asset entry section where you will be asked if the items you purchased cost less than $2,500. When you answer yes to that question you will be able to take an election to expense the items.
