2023 e-filing pin

Good afternoon,  I have finally completed our information!!!! but now on the Sign Your Return page it is asking for "Signature - 2023 e-filing PIN"  but it won't take our IRS PIN!!  I get an error message telling me there are too many digits!  Please advise.  Thank you!!

In the File section of the program you enter any 5 digit PIN you select.  This is for e-filing your tax return and is NOT where you enter the 6 digit IP PIN you received from the IRS.

To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button

The signature e-filing PIN is a random 5 digit number you make up.

To enter your IP PIN select the following

  1. Federal
  2. Other Tax Situations
  3. Identity protection PIN

You just make up a 5 digit pin on that screen.   The IRS pin is 6 digits and gets entered elsewhere on your return.   Where do I enter my IRS IP PIN?

The post instructs to Other Tax Situations but how?  I could not figure it out so I called TurboTax Support [phone number removed]) where Ralph heroically and seamlessly walked me thru it while viewing my screen. He was able to tell me real-time that my e-filed return was accepted by IRS.

1. While in TurboTax with your return open, go to the PERSONAL tab

2. Below PERSONAL tab choose "Other Tax Situations"

3. Scroll down to "Other Return Info" section

4. Click Update for "Identity protection PIN"

5. Click Add to enter an Identity Protection (IP) PIN for the primary tax filer only.  Dependents don't need one.

Where do you get an IP PIN?  Get one from IRS: https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin

The 5-digit e-filing PIN that TurboTax pre-filled with my zipcode is a red herring and is not the real issue here.

Hope this helps lessen the burden of tax filing for you.

@TaxFiler-User-Helper   The first answer poste above does say go to Personal for the Home&Business program.
