where do I enter a 1099-QA for an ABLE account?

My son received a 1099-QA for his ABLE account. All distributions were for qualified disability expenses. However, I cannot find where to enter the 1099-QA in Turbo Tax.

Yes, we can help you to post the 1099-QA.

 Select Tax Tools

  • This is on the left sidebar
  • You may have to minimize the Federal and State options
  • You also may have to scroll down on that menu
  1. Once you can work on Tax Tools
  2. On the drop-down select Tools
  3. There will be 3 or 4 green boxes
  4. Select Topics Search
  5. Type the form number or a topic.
  6. 1099-QA
  7. ABLE account distributions included in income
  8. Continue through the interview

I don't see how these instructions apply for the PC Desktop version of TurboTax Premier which I have.

How can I enter the 1099-QA in this version?

The information about a distribution reported on Form 1099-QA needs to be reported on a tax return only if any part of the distribution was used for a purpose other than the support of a disabled individual

Any amounts distributed in excess of qualified disability expenses must be included in the individual's taxable income and will be subject to a 10% penalty.

Enter 1099-QA Distributions from ABLE Accounts:

  1. Open your return (if not already open).
  2. Enter "1099qa" in the Search box.
  3. Click on "jump to 1099qa" link.
  4. Enter your information.

Enter 5498-QA ABLE Account Contribution Information:

  1. Open your return (if not already open).
  2. Enter "54989qa" in the Search box.
  3. Click on "jump to 5498qa" link.
  4. Enter your information.

Just be sure to keep your 1099-QA and 5498-QA forms with your records for future reference.

Well, some of us actually might have to show it for our mortgage payments or to qualify. It would be nice if we could show this somewhere on our taxes because our lenders look at it and for some of us it actually is income that should be counted from our families. So that we can actually manage to go home and to actually live. It’s not always for kids. It’s for everybody who’s been disabled since they were kids.
