Are you talking about a pension that you have in PA or other retirement plan? The distribution code would be listed on your 1099-R in box 7.
If this is a Pension, as you walk through the PA state return, you will select, I am eligible, plan is eligible to have it excluded from your taxable income in PA as PA does not tax qualified pensions.
