paying 1/3 early retirement distribution

I am trying to pay my last 1/3 of my early distribution. Turbotax will not add the amount in the income & then tells me to come back to it when I try to finish up my income. Is it just not available yet for turbo tax?

The Form 8915-F Qualified Disaster Retirement Plan Distributions and Retirements is estimated to be available on 03/09/2023.  Click on Review on the left side of the online program screen for a list of forms or schedules in your return that are not yet available.

seems as the form was updated today, however it is still not adding the 1/3 amount as income. My refund was not changed at all.

To verify, you followed the instructions below and it didn't enter the income on lines 4 or 5 of Form 1040.

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here", enter your information, and then continue.

It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2022" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Online

  1. From the left menu select Tax Tools.
  2. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  3. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  4. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  5. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  6. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

The instructions for TurboTax Download

  1. On your menu bar at the very top, click "Online"
  2. Select "Send Tax File to Agent"
  3. Click "Send"
  4. The pop-up will have a token number
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

It is still not working. Here is the number

1095823

It tells me to go back again to the retirement section.

Thank you, I reviewed your token. Your Form 1040 shows the 1/3 Covid distribution for the spouse and this seems correct. And the spouse's Form 8915-F is entered correctly.

I do not get the message to get back to the retirement section when going through the return. And the final review doesn't give me an error.

Where are you seeing that you need to go back to the retirement section?

Hi. I get the message after completing the income section.

it still shows 0 in the income section for this section.

also it did not change my refund amount, & pretty sure I shouldn’t be getting a refund as this has been the case the past 2 years because of this early distribution.

You can ignore the message since you entered the 3rd portion correctly and it shows correctly on Form 1040 line 5b.

Please be aware, only 2022 Form 1099-R entered into TurboTax will show up as income in the Income Section. But you have the 3rd portion correctly reported on your Form 1040.

To preview Form 1040:

  1. Click on "Tax Tools" in the left menu
  2. Click "Tools"
  3. Click "View Tax Summary" in the Tool Center window
  4. Click on "Preview my 1040" on the left

If you entered all your income, deductions, and credits then you should be ready to file.
