Please see DoninGA and dmertz responses to a similar question about a 1099-R "2b" code.
Yes! In box 7 under distribution code it says 2B. I can choose 2 or B under the pull down menu, not both... which am I supposed to choose? And I think it’s different from last years options according to last years tax help forums, so I’m not sure if those are very helpful? Though it seems to be smart to contact the payee of the 1099r and figure out if there is supposed to be a correction made?
There are two boxes available in the box 7 area of the 1099-R screen.
Select 2 for the first one and B for the second one.
I actual have a 1099-R with box 7 B2. It was an early Roth IRA distribution. Turbo Tax will not let me enter this. This is my final error to file my taxes. How to I get around it?
You have to enter the B and the 2 as separate entries.
Codes B and 2 together do not indicate a distribution from a Roth IRA, it instead indicates a distribution from a designated Roth account in a 401(k) or similar qualified retirement plan. You must answer No when TurboTax asks if the distribution was from a Roth IRA.
