Maryland Pension Exclusion

Last year when I filed my Maryland Turbo Tax return, it showed the Maryland Pension exclusion maximum amount from my Federal Pension on my return. This year when I completed my return with no problems, it is not showing the maximum exclusion amount. How can I correct that?

First, please look at this Maryland webpage, to see if there is anything here that might explain what you are seeing.

Next, enter your 1099-R (pension) information correctly on the federal return. Note that you may be asked for information on how much of the income and withholding applies to Maryland.

Then enter the Maryland interview. You will come to a screen entitled "Here's the income that Maryland handles differently". At the top will be your entry for the Maryland pension exclusion. Note that it is limited to $33,100. If you believe that the amount should be different, click on the Start button to see how TurboTax calculated the exclusion.

Come back if you still have questions.

Maryland Pension Exclusion not being picked up as
"Income that Maryland handles differently" as it was in prior year by TT.

Information was entered similarly in both 2020 and 2021.  Appears to be a

flaw in TT.

The maximum exclusion for TY 2021 is $34,300. Social Security is subtracted from that and the remainder can apply to your pension. . The updated 2021 Maryland Pension Exclusion has more information. The desktop program is flowing correctly. What issue are you having?
