How do I know if I’m contributing to a 401k

There are two ways to make a contribution:

• You can write a check.  (I think you'd remember that).
• Or it would be on your W-2.  It is reported in BOX 12 and Coded (D).

If neither of these are the case you probably are not contributing to a 401K
