Early distribution Roth disability

Does BECOMING disabled have to cause the early withdrawl from a RothIRA to qualify for an exception to the 10% penalty or if I'm already disabled and I make an early withdrawl can I still claim the exemption?

You can claim the exception to the 10% early withdrawal in your Roth IRA if you are totally and permanently disabled. The tax code does not specifically require that you have to become disabled in the year of the withdrawal.
