cannot enter 1099 ssa data

with win11 and 2024TT premier, found that the 1099 SSA field could not open due to carryover from 2023. Had to delete 2024 social security worksheet to get program working. This validates one previous workaround.

Were you able to get your 1099-SSA entered?    Where do I enter a 1099-SSA?

As we have to enter Canadian pension through the worksheet using the plus function, the original box 5 US data disappears and I have to reenter.  Seems that there is a problem with this form

To clarify, is this the worksheet you are entering information on? Also did you check the box above the amount in Box 5 that indicated you are a US Citizen and a resident of Canada? If you checked that Box, it will negate the income because of the US/Canada Treaty Exemption. If you are a US Citizen living in the US, you will not check that box.

Also, the information may have disappeared because this is not taxable income on your return because your SSA income combined with your other taxable income did not reach a income threshold where your social security benefits were taxable.

Here is the worksheet I was referring to.

Dave, thanks for the input.  With the update this week, the SSA 1099 data entry seems to be working. However, since TT no longer identifies what was fixed who knows for certain that this was the case.  To check, I would have to delete the return and start over with the original problem being the data in the 2024 SSA worksheet being carried over from 2023.  Deleting the 2024 worksheet seemed to fix the problem

I was also unable to enter the information for Social Security in the Step-by-Step program; when I clicked on Federal Taxes/Wages & Income, scrolled down to Retirement Plans and Social Security, then Social Security SSA 1099 UPDATE, it would not open the form. SOLUTION: I went to Form view under the top banner "View" then "View Forms". Opened Form 1040, scrolled to Line 6a Social Security Benefits, and click on the Magnifying Glass. This will take you to the form you need to enter your information into. (If you had created a Details attachment in the previous year, it may be wise to delete it from the information carried forward to the current year's tax return.
