Eligibility for Third Stimulus Check

For the first and second stimulus checks I was not qualified for as I am a dependent. For the third my parents did not claim me but on my 2020 Taxes, I put down that I am being claimed. Will I get the stimulus check? Will my parents? If I amend my taxes and put down that I am not being claimed, will I get it?

If you could be claimed, even if you were not claimed, you can’t get the stimulus. If your parents could claim you and did not, neither you nor your parents would get the stimulus.

If I then amend my taxes, to where no one is claiming me, can I get the stimulus check?

To be clear, the issue is not whether someone else is claiming you but rather CAN someone else claim you. If someone is eligible to claim you you must say that on your return and you would not get the stimulus. If no one CAN claim you then amend your return and get the stimulus.

If you amend your 2020 taxes and correct the mistake, you would be able to get all three checks. The first two were advanced credits for 2020 filings. They just sent them out in advance and used either 2018 or 2019 taxes to get them out to people as soon as possible.
