Schedule A: Line 26 Error For State Taxes

I am active duty military stationed overseas. Never had an issue with TurboTax until this year:

On my state return, I am receiving an error that states:

Schedule A: Line 26 Military pay received by OH residents should be blank. You indicated that you are a Nonresident of Ohio. You cannot claim the Military deduction that is allowed for a full-year Ohio resident. You can take the "Compensation earned by nonresident military servicemembers" deduction. You may need to return to the Income Interview Topic to correct.

I have checked both my federal and state information, and all of it indicates that I am an Ohio resident (which I am). Which would mean I am allowed the military deduction for a full-year resident. Not sure if this is a software error or not, but it is preventing me from filing!

Your best bet, if you can't get past this, is probably to clear your state return and start over.

Please see the TurboTax Help article “How do I delete my state return in TurboTax Online?” or "How do I clear my state return in the TurboTax for Windows software?" as appropriate for guidance.

I've already registered my free version or paid my TurboTax fees while the Ohio return was started so it won't let me delete it and start over.

To start over in TurboTax following these steps:

  • If you haven't already done so, sign in to your TurboTax account
  • Select the Take me to my return button.
  • On the welcome back screen, in the left-side menu, select Tax Tools.
  • Then select Clear & Start Over (select the menu icon in the upper-left corner if you don't see this menu).
  • Answer Yes in the pop-up to confirm.

For those of us who have registered the free version or paid TurboTax fees while the Ohio return, we are not able to delete it and start over. Even when we follow those steps, it says, "You cannot start over"

Try these steps to delete forms individually,

1.  Click "Tax Tools" in the left hand menu

2.  Click "Tools" in the left hand menu

3.  Click "Delete a form" in the center screen

4.  Go down to the OH forms and delete each available form to start over.
