Cannot File Tax Return — 1099-R Qualified Disaster Distribution Error (2025)

After doing multiple uodates in previous weeks and doing the last one this past Thursday 02/19/26, I’m still unable to complete my tax return because TurboTax Desktop is blocking filing in the Qualified Disaster Distribution worksheet after entering my 2025 1099-R. When I select “2025 disaster distribution” box in the Smart Worksheet, make the box red, and the program still won’t let me proceed and prompts me to review that form before filing.

This appears to be a software issue — the form isn’t recognized as complete/error-free even after entering all required details. Other users on the TurboTax Community have reported similar issues with 1099-R/disaster distribution blocking filing in this and previous years. Any fix available or date when this would be fixed?

If you can not file your tax return due to an error regarding your Qualified Disaster Distribution,  continue to run all updates to your TurboTax program as this form was delayed due to IRS finalization.

You can manually update your TurboTax Desktop program by clicking on "Online" in the black bar across the top of your TurboTax screen. Then click on "Check for Updates."

You could also try deleting your Form 8915-F that is associated with your disaster distribution and then making sure that all of your Form 1099-R follow-up questions are properly answered.

To delete a Form 8915-F in TurboTax Desktop, you can:

  1. Click on "Forms" in the top right of the TurboTax screen.
  2. In your left panel look for the Form 8915-F that is associated with your Disaster Distribution.
  3. The form will display in your right panel. Select "Delete Form"
  4. Click on "Yes" to confirm deletion of the form

Then go back to your 1099-R section and review the follow-up questions  and make sure all of the questions are properly answered.

To get back to this section in TurboTax Desktop to check your entries you can:

  1. Click on Search in the top right of your TurboTax screen
  2. Type "Form 1099-R" in the search box
  3. Click on the link "Jump to Form 1099-R"
  4. Review the follow-up questions for your Form 1099-R

You can also check for forms availability using this link click here.

Hi LindaS5247, thank you for your recommendation. I read about doing this in other thread that Im following, I just did it, delete all related form with the 1099-R and did it all over again and still the same issue, after I run the review a box that is marking  ''2025 Disaster Distribution'' appears red. Then in this page that is under  Review> Analysis > Check This Entry appear a legend in the top that says :

'' Form 1099-R ( Payer's Company): 2025 Disaster Distribution Checkbox - You can't file just yet. This may mean a better tax outcome for taxpayers like you who have 2025 Qualified Disaster Distributions. We can keep working on your tax return adn we''ll let you know when we can help you finish up your taxas''.

What I understand form this is that Turbo Tax Desktop Premier is still unable to process this forms, the real question would be until when since this is the only thing stopping me from filling since 2 weeks ago. Hopefully Turbotax fix this soon.
