Amended return for additional 1098

Help

Need to file an amended return for an additional 1098.

The originating 1098 included prepaid interest, mortgage insurance premiums, and points paid on the purchase.  The second 1098 is for the interest paid from Oct-Nov.  It does not include real estate taxes or any other payments.

When I use the amend function of Turbo Tax, the calculation produces a tax due for both Federal and state.  How can this be?  An adjustment to the Schedule A should not result in tax due but in additional refund.

What am I missing?  Please help.

Did you delete the first Form 1098? If the second 1098 covered interest from Oct-Nov then both 1098s should be on your return.

  1. Type 1098 in Search in the top right
  2. Select Jump to 1098
  3. Then Add another 1098

Another reason your tax may have went up was if you bought and sold a house and did not property close out the first 1098 to show your mortgage for each home was under $750,000.

See What do I do if I have multiple 1098s from refinancing my home debt?
