[Event] Ask the Experts: Extension Filers
Intuit has officially announced that TurboTax Desktop for the 2025 tax year will only run on Windows 11 (64-bit). You won’t be able to install or use TurboTax Desktop 2025 on Windows 10—even if you enroll in Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.
Intuit has stated that security is their top priority. They are making the decision to only support Windows 11 because Microsoft's free support and security updates for Windows 10 end on October 14, 2025. They do not want their users handling sensitive financial data on an operating system that is no longer receiving these free, critical updates from its manufacturer.
If you want to continue using TurboTax for the upcoming tax season, you have two primary options:
- Upgrade to Windows 11 (if your hardware supports it).
- Switch to TurboTax Online. The online version of TurboTax is fully compatible with Windows 10 as long as your web browser is up to date. This would allow you to continue using your current computer without needing to upgrade your operating system.
How does the end of support for Windows 10 affect my TurboTax Desktop experience?
