Self employed
If you are required to file a 2022 tax return (because you received income other than your self-employed net income less than $400 - see Do I need to file a federal return this year?) you need to report all your income. As @JohnB5677 showed, you can enter the income this way, but you would not be able to offset the income with any expenses.
It is most likely you will benefit most by reporting even this small amount as self-employment income because you can then deduct eligible expenses you incurred as well.
To enter your self-employment income in TurboTax Online please follow these steps:
- Open or continue your return in TurboTax
- Search for self employed income (use this exact phrase, don't add a hyphen) and select the Jump to link at the top of the search results
- Answer Yes on the Did you have any self-employment income or expenses? screen
- If you land on the Your 2022 self-employed work summary page, select Review next to the work you're adding income for
- Continue through the questions all the way through entering your expenses
See What self-employed expenses can I deduct? to review any expenses that you would be eligible to deduct from your business income.
