You are confusing being the "breadwinner" (which is not a filing status) with "head of household."  Being the only one in a marriage who is working does not make you head of household. You will want to file a  joint return with your spouse when you prepare a tax return.  You can file a joint return even if one spouse has little or no income.  Then you get all of the child-related credits, etc. that you qualify for as a couple, and you get the married filing jointly standard deduction, which lowers the amount of income you are taxed on.  For 2019 the MFJ standard deduction is $24,400 (+ $1300 for each spouse 65 or older) and for 2020 it will be $24,800 + $1300 for each spouse 65or older.)
