Retirement tax questions
No, box 4 for federal tax withheld is not "good for the state." If any tax was withheld for the state it would be shown in boxes 12 -14 on the 1099R.
But information flows from the federal return to your state return. The money you took out of your retirement account will go to the state return form. We do not know what state you are in, so we cannot know if your state taxes retirement income.
