Retirement tax questions

Yes you will file on a Form 1040, because everyone now uses a Form 1040.  There are no more 1040EZ or 1040A tax return forms, as of the 2018 tax returns.  If you are earning money as an independent contractor, you will be preparing a Schedule C with your Form 1040, and you will be paying self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare--as well as ordinary income tax.
