Retirement tax questions
Your friend's company treated you as an independent contractor for the work that you did. That means that for that job you were self-employed and your income shown on the Form 1099-NEC should be reported on Schedule C Business Income and Expenses.
Your income will be subject to self-employment tax if the net amount is greater than $400.
