Retirement tax questions
Thanks, that worked for me too.
In case anyone else comes across this thread - I switched to the desktop version (which was actually slightly cheaper for Premier than the plan I was going to pay for online, and the ability to see all the forms directly to double check stuff is very helpful, so this is just better overall. You can transfer the return you started on the web to desktop in 1 click.) Then I could edit 1040 Section 3 Line 11 to add the overpaid social security taxes. During the review step Turbotax surfaced an error though that you can't set this line if you have only a single W2.
So I also split up my W2 into 2 using my paystubs and making sure the combined amounts came out the same as my real W2, and in box 3 for both of them I appended "PEO for <COMPANY>". Now all the Turbotax checks pass, it estimates a low chance of audit, and it's still letting me file online. So fingers crossed that my return actually gets accepted but this seems to be the way to handle this situation.
Thank god for this thread, it's crazy that Turbotax has just been handling this wrong for at least the last 5 years.
