Retirement tax questions

@mcgo1020

Well, guessing as to what "4 tiles" you are talking about, it's probably the 4:

1) 1099-R

2) CSA-1099-R

3) CSF-1099-R

4) RRB-1099-R

A military retirement goes in as #1, the plain-old 1099-R entry.

It is Federally taxable.

And I don't think its importable (hasn't been in prior years, but sometimes things change.)

You enter it manually, like tens-of-thousands of other folks do every year (DO NOT take a picture....if it's offered).

Depending on exactly where you are in the entry process,,,,you select:

"Change how I enter my Form"...and "Type it in myself".

Then you'll just type in the data shown on your Paper 1099-R form.

Now, some states do exempt Military 1099-R $$ from state taxation.  IF that is the case for your state, you'll normally identify the form as being from the Military in one of the follow-up pages, right after the main 1099-R form entry .....though a few states, (like PA) might wait until you go thru the State Q&A to identify the military retirement $$ as being exempt  (IF...IF your state doesn't tax Military pensions).
