Florida does not have an income tax. But yes if you are an employee they take out SS and Medicare taxes out of your paychecks. And if you are self employed you pay self employment tax to cover the SS & Medicare taxes.
If you are getting Social Security benefits then it can be taxable on the federal return.
Up to 85% of Social Security becomes taxable when all your other income plus 1/2 your social security, reaches:
Married Filing Jointly: $32,000
Single or head of household: $25,000
Married Filing Separately: 0
