Retirement tax questions
Typically a 1099-NEC is issued for a taxpayer who performed a service for the payer but was not an employee of the payer. That generally means the payee/taxpayer is self-employed and the income should be reported on a Schedule C.
In some very special circumstances a 1099-NEC may be issued for a reason other than working for the payer to earn income. To help determine if you fall into one of the special circumstances you should answer the questions posed by TurboTax to help get the income properly reported on your return.
