Retirement tax questions
You do not have to click a box to say you are retired. If you want to use "Retired" as your occupation in My Info, you can do that. The IRS does not use occupation for anything that has any effect on your tax due or refund. When you come to the screen to enter a W-2, if you do not have any W-2's for 2022 you can just say you do not have any W-2's, or even delete the employers that transfer over from your 2021 return.
Then enter the income you have had...such as Social Security, pension income, retirement account distributions, etc.
Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.
To enter your retirement income, Go to Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA 401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
