Retirement tax questions
Well, if you had provided details in this public forum.....before now, someone could have instructed you to put a certain value in box 16.....(We've been arguing about whether it is box 1 or box 2a.....but may not be critical, one experienced NY-user of he software says it is box 1 ).
99% of all issued 1099-R forms do not have a value in box 16...no matter who provides it.
.................what make the $$ in box 16 not taxable in NY...IF from a valid NY-exempt public pension type....is the answer you make to the follow-up page......similar to what is shown in the picture below.
IF you haven't actually mailed it in yet, you can still fix it and e-file it...once fixed:
