Retirement tax questions
You would think so BUT the IRS computers look for mismatched INCOME and send out a CP2000 notice to explain the missing income which technically the 1099-R reports in box 1 and is entered as such on the form 1040. The fact that this is a non taxable rollover (which is how it is reported on the tax return) is not taken into consideration when sending out the annoying notice. So either you must take care of the issue now by amending the return OR later in response to the CP2000 notice.
