This suggestion did not work because the "uncommon situations" shown on the screen did not include "I transferred all or part of this money directly to charity".
I understand that the reason I did not get this choice is because of a glitch in Turbo Tax that did not offer this option to people born between July 1, 1949 and June 30,1950. This insight was provided in a different reply to my request for help.
