You would only receive a 1099 form, and would only need to file one if you sold stock from your account, or if you received dividend or interest income in the account in 2016. Dividends and interest need to be reported even if you used the money to reinvest in more stock in that company. If you believe you need the form 1099 for 2016, you should call your investment advisor.
