You need to mail in your Form 7004 (Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File Certain Business Income Tax, Information, and Other Returns) to the IRS.
You should keep a copy for your records that indicates the date you filed you extension.
Follow these steps to file an extension for your business tax return in TurboTax Business:
TurboTax Online:
- Open your return, select Search, and enter extend.
- Select Jump to extend.
- Select Extension of time to file (Form 7004) and Continue.
- Follow the instructions to prepare and print your 7004 form. This form cannot be e-filed. We'll provide the mailing address and any payment instructions.
TurboTax Desktop:
- Open your return, select Search, and enter extend.
- Select Jump to extend.
- Confirm that you want to start an extension.
- Follow the instructions in Easy Extension to prepare and print your 7004 form. This form cannot be e-filed. We'll provide the mailing address and any payment instructions.
Your extension deadline depends on your business type:
- Partnership income (Form 1065) and S corporation income (Form 1120S) taxes are due September 15, 2025.
- Estates and trusts income (Form 1041) taxes are due September 30, 2025.
- Corporation income (Form 1120) taxes are due October 15, 2025.
- Unless the fiscal year ends June 30, in which case your return is due September 15, 2025, and the extension gives you until April 15, 2026 to file.
