It depends. The 1099-Q that you receive from the 529 account will have the recipient's social security number on it. If it is paid directly to the academic institution, it should be the student's social security number and the distribution is reportable by the student. If the 1099-Q has your parent's social security number on it, then they would be the ones to answer Yes.
