You can use the expenses for the fall of 2019 as long as you meet the requirements to claim the credit.
The requirements include:
- Be seeking a degree
- Be enrolled at an accredited institution
- Not be claimed as a dependent (most education credits are claimed by parents)
- Have qualified education expenses
