Since you did not pay the expense until 2020, you will not get a 1098-T to claim the expense until next year.
What you are referring to is if a student is already enrolled and in school and they are billed for and actually paid tuition in advance for the first three months of the next year.
You can only deduct tuition paid in the actual tax year.
