I had one employer in 2022 and they took out both VPDI ($1601.60) and CASDI ($132.55) from my paycheck. The total of the two exceeds $1601.60, which is the maximum for 2022. When I was ready to file Turbo Tax Premier Online, I keep getting an error regarding Box 14 and it says I need to correct this before I can file.
I've done a lot of research and found this on the CA FTB website: "If SDI (or VPDI) was withheld from your wages by a single employer, at more than 1.10 percent of your gross wages, you may not claim excess SDI (or VPDI) on your Form 540. Contact the employer for a refund."
I mentioned this to my employer, and asked them to refund the overpayment of $132 to me. They responded saying that they do not owe me this money and that this is a "known issue" with Turbo Tax and that I should find an alternate way to file my taxes.
Can you please confirm if my employer owes me the refund? They are being very problematic with this. Not only am I owed $132 to me, but I also can't file online.
I'm still battling with my employer, but I would like to file. Can I simply delete the "CASDI ($132.55)" from the W2 entry on Turbo Tax? I am concerned about doing that because then my entries won't match my W2. Will that be a problem?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!
