Deductions & credits
If you paid someone to care for your child (or your disabled spouse or another dependent) while you work, you might be eligible to receive a tax credit. The credit is a percentage of your child or dependent care expenses and varies depending on your adjusted gross income (AGI).
If your spouse was unable to care for himself and the purpose of the care provided was to allow you to work, you should be eligible for the Child and Dependent Care credit. Enter the words child care credit in the Find box on the upper right and hit Enter. Click on the Jump To that appears.
Don't be misled by the name of the credit. You would be filing jointly with your spouse, not claiming him as a dependent.
