Yes, you may claim the expense if you donated to an IRS qualified organization.

You can deduct all of your out of pocket expenses as cash contributions as well as 14 cents per mile
for travelling by auto in the service of your qualified volunteer organization.
If you are taking the standard deduction, you cannot claim itemized expenses like charitable donation.
If your itemized expenses are more than the Standard deduction, then you can itemize and claim charitable contributions you made to qualified organizations(like churches, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc).
