Deductions & credits
No. First---you cannot put a 2023 expense or income on a 2024 tax return. You cannot just put things you forgot last year on the next tax return you prepare. If you forget to enter something on a tax return, you can amend the return after it has been fully processed.
Secondly, moving expenses are not deductible on a federal return unless you were an active duty member of the military.
Per the tax laws that changed for 2018 and beyond, moving expenses are not deductible on a federal return except for certain active duty members of the military.
There are several states that allow a deduction for moving expenses on the state return: AZ, AR, CA, HI, IA, MA, MN, NJ, NY, PA and VA You can enter your moving expenses in the federal software and the information will flow to your state return.
Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Other Deductions and Credits>Moving Expenses
If you live in one of the states that allows you to enter moving expenses, then you can amend your 2023 tax return.
