Your post is not clear. What is the source---exactly--- of the survivor income that is being sent for the children? Is it Social Security? If the children are receiving Social Security survivor benefits--even if the checks are payable to you for now---that is not income that you enter on a tax return. If they are getting a SSA1099 for that money, it does not get entered on a tax return until someday--if-- the child has other income like pay from an after school job, etc. and files a tax return. In that situation, the SSA1099 income would go on the child's income tax return--not on yours.
If the income is coming from some other source, please explain clearly.
