@Bartholomew90 In a private message you shared that there was a typo and that you really meant you "barely" started working. So if the question is whether you can get the refundable child tax credit if you only worked a little bit ----then we would need more details. You have to earn at least $2500 to get the refundable child tax credit. But if you only earned a small amount over $2500, then your credit would be very low. In order to get the full amount of up to $1600 you must earn more than the minimum of $2500. Here is how the refundable amount is calculated:
The child tax credit is a credit of UP to $2000, but not everyone gets the full amount. First the credit is applied to any tax you owe. Then the "refundable" amount of up to $1600 ( $1700 for 2024) is calculated. Look at box 1 of your W-2. Subtract $2500 from that. Then take that number and multiply by 15%. That is your refundable amount --or "additional child tax credit" amount. If you did not earn at least $2500 you cannot get any additional child tax credit at all.
