Deductions & credits

Hi, TurboTax is likely doing the calculations right now to understand whether you will come out ahead taking the standard deduction vs. itemizing. In order to report any donations, you need to enter the full address of each charity recipient. Charities need this information because they have multiple locations and need to know exactly where you donated, especially in the case they get audited.

Do you know yet if you're taking a standard deduction or itemizing? This year, more customers will be taking the standard deduction due to tax reform.

Depending on your tax-filing status, you are entitled to take one of the following standard deductions:

  • Single or married filing separately: $12,000
  • Head of household: $18,000
  • Married filing jointly or qualified widow(er): $24,000

If the amount you could itemize is less than the above limits, you'd be better off taking the standard deduction.
