TurboTax does not give you the option of using the California standard deduction if itemized deductions produce a better tax result.
You can claim the standard deduction on your federal return instead of itemized deductions, but this choice will not carry over to California. TurboTax will still give you California itemized deductions if that works out better than the state standard deduction.
