There is never any tax consequence for the recipient of a gift.
The annual gift tax exclusion is $16,000 for 2022 per donor per recipient. If you give your son more than $16,000 per year, then you will have to file a gift tax return to reduce your annual exclusion, i.e. the amount of assets sheltered from tax upon death.
