Even though you were the one that paid for the insurance and the policy is in your name, it must be included on your parents' return since they claimed you as a dependent. This also means their income will be taken into consideration when calculating the premium tax credit. If you had income during the year, they will have to add that to their return as well to calculate the modified adjusted gross income for the premium tax credit. For your tax return, you have to delete Form 1095-A before it can be filed. To do this:
- Click Deductions and Credits
- Scroll down to Medical and Click Show More
- Click Start or Revisit next to the ACA
- If you see a 1095-A in there, be sure to delete it.
