TurboTax will give you the best deduction–standard or itemized. Where do you see that your itemized deductions are larger than standard?
State and local taxes are limited to $10,000 so you total itemized deductions may be higher, but your allowable deductions could be lower,.
TurboTax shows a comparison between your standard and allowable itemized deductions after you enter Deductions & Credits. You can also change your deduction on that screen.
- Select Federal in the left column
- Deductions & Credits at the top
- Tap Wrap up tax breaks in the lower right
- On the next screen Based on what you just told us, the Standard Deduction is best for you tap Change my deduction
